Parks and Recreation Sites
- At Point Mountain, you can enjoy hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and mountain biking through the many miles of trails. You can even fish the Musconetcong River, which is stocked seasonally with trout or fetch your binoculars to watch for the more than 90 species of birds including hawks as they migrate along the mountain.
- Mountain Farm/Teetertown Preserve offers the solitude of a densely wooded area including hardwoods, shrubs, and animal life. It also showcases a spectacular rushing stream winding its way through the Ravine’s dramatic rock outcroppings.
- There’s an easy, one-mile hiking trail at Tower Hill Park, which meanders along the edge of the reserve’s vast meadows. Here, you can ride a mountain bike or put on your cross-country skis as you glide across Mountain View Road, twice! You’ll see grassland birds among others and an array of bluebird houses where you’ll enjoy bird watching winter, spring, summer and fall.
- Charlestown Reserve is habitat for wildlife galore. Along the trail are stonewalls, which house snakes and small mammals such as chipmunks. The rocky hillsides and other secluded areas provide a haven for the county’s more reclusive mammals like the gray fox, woodpeckers, red-tailed hawks and even wild turkeys.
